Voter's Forum Recap

Submitted by Marylee Boston

It’s not often that backyard chicken coops, marijuana, and potholes are discussed in one evening but those topics and many more were addressed at the Candidates Forum co-sponsored by Fenelon Forward and Fenelon Falls & District Chamber of Commerce.

All four Mayoral candidates; Andy Letham, Gord James, Brian Junkin and Peter Weygang along with the Ward 3 Councillor candidates; Stephen Clarke, Doug Elmslie and Roger McInnis gave presentations on their platforms and answered questions from the audience.

Over 120 people were in attendance for the two hour event and attendees submitted written questions or addressed the candidates from the microphone. The questions covered areas mentioned above and others such as; the proposed Ross Memorial Hospital amalgamation, low income housing, roads, development, and issues relating to an aging population.

Pamela Vanmeer from Kawartha 411 moderated the event and kept it flowing smoothly so that each candidate had an equal opportunity to present and answer questions. Thank you to all those who submitted their questions via email and attended in person. The evening was informative and engaging.
