Community Volunteers for a Community Event
Submitted by Beverly Jeeves
The long weekend and Simcoe Day are fast approaching in Fenelon Falls. Last year over 4,000 people attended events on Trent Severn Island, Water Street, the Fenelon Museum and the Fenelon Falls & District Lions Club’s Car & Truck Show.
Fenelon Live is looking for volunteers for Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd for FOUR-HOUR shifts. This is a great opportunity for families, youth groups, soccer teams, hockey teams, individuals and organizations to support community projects and build community spirit!
This year the Simcoe Day Steering Committee has planned in honour of the U.N. Year of Indigenous Languages three exhibits representing the Anishnaabeg nation. The Fleming College Varsity Lumberjack team will have various displays in woodcarving, axe throwing, and pole rolling. The “Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada” will again have an 1812 encampment that will operate and be set up at Lock 34 TSW Island. 1812 Overture.” This year we have interactive activities along Water Street and our local library sharing Fenelon Falls history through storytelling, song and interactive displays.
