Guide to Sandbars Between Sturgeon, Cameron, and Balsam Lake!

You might be a regular Sandbar stopper, never even heard of the Sandbar, or maybe you have always wondered where they were but just never knew how to get there. Between Sturgeon, Cameron, and Balsam Lake there are a plethora of Sandbar’s to choose from.

Keep in mind, I am writing from a born and raised on Cameron Lake perspective, so if I miss a couple unknown to me, please write us submissions@explorefenelonfalls.com and we will be sure to include the other locations in next week's newsletter. The Sandbars included in this piece should keep you busy until then.

If you’re already on Sturgeon Lake or coming from Lock 34, you might be a little disoriented by the map. Closer to the channel known as the “Fenelon River”, Sturgeon Lake’s Sandbar is located on the right hand side if you are heading into the town of Fenelon Falls. If you are leaving the channel, the Sandbar will be located on your left.

Taking a closer look. The Sandbar is located in the small bay inside the black circle. Keep an eye, there is no black circle or sign for the Sandbar on the actual lake. Wink wink nudge nudge.

Heading into Cameron Lake, Right, Left, no matter where you are on the lake you are bound to see or come across one of the three Sandbars. If you are coming out of the Locks, almost immediately to your left you will see the first one. Sheltered by beautiful trees, you can stay easily shaded or get your tan on in the sun! Around the small point further to the left, you will see the second Sandbar closest to Sunny Acres Trailer Park. If you are coming onto Cameron Lake from The Rosedale Locks, almost immediately across the lake you will find another hidden gem of a Sandbar. This one was a little more difficult to find, but if you look for where the boats are, you’ve come to the right spot!

Finally, we have reached Balsam Lake. The location where Sandbar Sunday got its name. This is the place to be on long weekend Sundays… and pretty much any other day of the week. They even sometimes have live music! If you haven’t made plans for the August Long Weekend, this is the sign that you need to hit up the Balsam Lake Sandbar. If you are coming from the Rosedale Locks, keep left around Grand Island beyond Long Point and head straight for the shore. You won’t miss the boat traffic, loud tunes, and people!

And if all else fails, stop your boat and enjoy nature's beauty in the middle of any of these three beautiful lakes.
