New Signage in Rosedale

Submitted by Barb Young for Residents of Rosedale (ROR)

The Residents of Rosedale (ROR) are very pleased to announce that we have finally received our new boundary signs which were installed on Highway 35 at the north and south ends of town earlier this month. Obtaining the signs involved lengthy negotiations between the Community, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and the MTO.

We were able to get signs from MTO from a limited number of formats, so we came up with a number of ideas and surveyed the community to get the most popular opinion of what would be best. This was submitted to the City of Kawartha Lakes and MTO and after some minor alterations, the City of Kawartha Lakes approved our design and sent it to MTO in the spring of this year with the go-ahead for it to be installed.

We think they're quite attractive and hope you'll come out to Rosedale to admire them and enjoy our parkette.

Rosedale's Pollinator Garden a Big Success

Submitted by Barb Young

In 2015 a group of volunteers in Rosedale undertook a project to re-establish the once well-used parkette by the Trent Severn Bridge. With the assistance of the Coboconk Norland and Area Chamber of Commerce and Kawartha Conservation, grants were obtained and a wonderful parkette established.

The parkette includes a large pollinator garden which we have been watching over the years to see if they "work." Last year at least one Monarch Butterfly and Caterpillar were spotted. However, this year things are greatly improved. On June 24 at least 8 Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars were spotted on the milkweed plants in the garden (and that was just by walking around the periphery on the pathway). I'm sure there were plenty more inside. It seemed like almost every other milk weed had at least one caterpillar and some had two. Some were quite large and some not much more than an inch.

Our conclusion is that these garden really do work and everyone should have one! We can't wait to see the next stage in their transformation.
