There is over $1 million dollars in financial incentives available through loan and grant programs. Successful applicants will be able to use the funds to improve their commercial, mixed-use, or heritage designated residential buildings.

Funding is available to support eight types of improvement projects:

  1. improving signage

  2. improving façades

  3. building repairs and renovations

  4. accessibility improvements

  5. heritage conservation

  6. outdoor art

  7. outdoor patios

  8. design studies

One million dollars is available in loans to property and business owners across the City of Kawartha Lakes. Loans will be a low interest rate over a five year term. The loan program is especially attractive to land owners who are looking to make significant improvements on one or more story of their building.

Matching fund grants (50% of eligible costs) are available to properties within the downtown areas that completed a Downtown Revitalization project: Coboconk, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Norland and Omemee. Grants are available for the signage, façade and building repair and renovation improvement projects.

The Million Dollar Makeover is now open! Applications will be accepted until 4:30pm on Thursday January 17, 2019.

The CIP is Coming!

If you are a local business or commercial building owner, you probably remember hearing all about the CIP last spring. The City of Kawartha Lakes CIP - which stands for Community Improvement Plan - includes funding in order to encourage the maintenance, rehabilitation, and redevelopment of buildings in our area.

The four main objectives of the CIP are:

1. To address building repairs and improve functionality

2. Heritage buildings and heritage district restoration and improvement

3. Housing rental retrofits for multi-use buildings

4. Downtown revitalization and enhancements

Full details of the CIP are expected to be released in November, including the application process information, loan and grant amounts, and the criteria for projects to apply. Keep an eye on this space in the Town Crier for updates on this exciting opportunity for business and commercial land owners in Fenelon.

Start thinking of your desired building improvements now and we will keep you posted on all the details for applying for funding through the CIP!

You may recall that earlier this spring, a proposal for the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) was circulated and discussed. This plan has now officially been adopted by the City of Kawartha Lakes.

To refresh your memory on what this is all about: $1,000,000 has been allocated by the City of Kawartha Lakes as part of The Community Improvement Plan (CIP). The purpose of these funds is to provide a variety of financial incentive programs to business and property owners in order to encourage and support economic growth and innovation in the area.

Some pending possible uses for the funding include:

  • Planning and building permits
  • Signage improvement
  • Facade improvement
  • Marina slips
  • Outdoor patios
  • Heritage conservation
  • Loan options

If you've got a plan to beautify your property in Fenelon Falls, this could be the perfect fit for you. Watch this space of the trusty Town Crier for more details about the CIP and the application process as they become available!
