2019 is officially here, and we’d love to hear from you! Our community newsletter, the Town Crier, is released every Thursday at 6 pm. Here are a few different ways you can help us highlight our beautiful town and community:

We welcome submissions for local events and activities to submissions@explorefenelonfalls.com. In order to have your event added to our community calendar, please ensure that your submission includes the following: an event title, approximate start and end times, a description, and contact information. You are also welcome to submit an event poster which we will include in our weekly poster pack.

Want greater coverage for your event? We also offer sponsored placement in the Town Crier and on our social media for $25/week for a small spot (300 pixels wide by a max of 300 pixels tall) or $50/week for a large spot (600 pixels wide by a max of 600 pixels tall).

We welcome article submissions with a goal of informing, inspiring, or intriguing our local Fenelon Falls community and the many visitors to our town that subscribe to stay up to date on what’s happening in our community. Some of our most read articles in 2018 ranged from shared special memories and charitable endeavours to community updates and recaps of local events. You are also welcome to include pictures with your written submissions, however if you don’t have any pictures on hand, we will help curate an image that aligns with the theme of your submission. Not sure if we’d accept your article? Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you might have!

One of the most popular submissions we are always excited to receive are photo submissions. For a higher chance of being featured in the Town Crier, please ensure that you are submitting high resolution pictures within Fenelon Falls or the surrounding area. We especially love to see pictures of nature, wildlife, memories or community events.

When you submit a photo, you are also eligible to receive 1 entry into our monthly contest. To enter, simply include the subject line: Contest Entry in your submission and we’ll include you in our monthly draw for $50 or a special prize (prize may vary). This means that you have the opportunity to have up to 3 entries in each month’s draw (2 entries for an article plus 1 for a photo).

The Perfect Fall Day In Fenelon Falls

Our Perfect Summer Day blog was such a hit, that we knew we had to make another inspired by all of the wonderful Fall activities and events available in Fenelon Falls. It was hard to narrow it down to only 10 things, but we did our best! Feel free to add any of your favourites we missed in the comments below.


Start your day with breakfast at On The locks

Fall is all about being cozy, and we think there’s nothing cozier than sharing a breakfast with loved ones. On The Locks, located at 12 Water Street, offers a bunch of great options from The Big Locks Breaky to breakfast poutine, omelettes, benny’s, breakfast sandwiches, and even french toast. Yum!

The new pride of Fenelon Falls is the recently restored Fenelon Theatre Marquee. After a fulfilling breakfast, there’s no better time to take a nice stroll along the water to appreciate the sights, the beauty of the changing leaves, and of course, the stunning presence of the marquee.

Go for a hike on the victoria county rail trail

Fenelon Falls is blessed to have the Victoria County Rail Trail pass right through town. Stretching all the way from Lindsay to Kinmount (approximately 55 km) this trail is stunning and is used for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling during the Fall.

After an active morning, it’s important to fuel up with a good lunch. While there are many options in town to experience, this time around we are recommending That Place on Cameron which feature a big menu of options enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

In addition to fantastic local galleries, including Colborne Street Gallery by Tim + Chris and the Station Gallery, for a limited time, you can embark on the Victoria County Studio Tour to meet local artists including Hanny Rentel, Donna Bisschop, Janet Tysiak, Janice Addison, Mary Sullivan, and Bruno Cantieni. The tour runs from September 29th to 30th and again on October 6th and 7th.

We know, we know. We featured this as part of our perfect summer day blog too. But now that Fall is here all of the amazing stores we’re blessed with in downtown Fenelon Falls are carrying new clothing, accessories, and all sorts of other goodies.

Check out the Harvest Happenings event on October 6th if you can! It’s a family friendly event featuring many local stores and includes the Grand Opening of the Tinkertoy Playspace at Maryboro Lodge: The Fenelon Museum. There are tons of other festive activities like cider pressing, a scavenger hunt, crafts, wagon rides, and more.

Recently renovated, The Book Lady is a fantastic stop to add to your list. Nothing says Fall more than enjoying a cozy drink and treat while you find a new (or previously loved) book to enjoy. There’s a book for everyone at The Book Lady!

One of the best things to do during the peak of Fall is to enjoy a drive in the countryside. You don’t necessarily need to have a destination in mind, just hop in the car, find some backroads, and enjoy the sights around you. New to The Barn and Bunkie are workshops with local artisans. Taking place in the evening, usually around 7 pm, you (and a friend) can sign up for fun and fall-themed classes such as candle making with the Kawartha Candle Company.

Start your day with breakfast at Sweet Bottoms

There's no better way to start your day than with a delicious breakfast. Local favourite, Sweet Bottoms, is sure to meet all of your breakfast needs. Open at 7 am during the week, and 8 am on weekends, Sweet Bottoms offers organic coffees, high quality teas, fresh bread baked daily, baked goods and more.

The Fenelon Museum is one location that shouldn't be missed, especially for out-of-town visitors. During the summer, they are open 7 days a week from 11 am until 5 pm. The museum not only offers an insightful glimpse into Fenelon Falls' history, it also features regular events, art and artifact exhibitions, and weekly programs. There's something for everyone!

It's a simple pleasure, but one that can be awe-inspiring. During the summer, Lock 34 is busy with lots of visitors travelling by boat. One of the most relaxing activities you can enjoy in town is to watch the boats pass through the locks. Some boats are local, from other around the Kawartha Lakes, while others travel from afar, from locations like Florida, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Not only do Slices 'n' Scoops have the best pizza in town, they also serve up one of the best gems of the Kawartha Lakes region, Kawartha Dairy ice cream. Whether you're looking for lunch, a nice treat on a hot day, or a combination of both, Slices 'n' Scoops is located right beside Lock 34. You can grab your food, and continue to enjoy the scenery.

For art lovers, there are two amazing galleries in town. The first, Fenelon Station Gallery was founded in 2005 as a co-op by a group of local artists. The gallery is inside a historical building, a train station, dating back to the 1800's. It currently features 16 local artists, near-daily artist demonstrations, and a gift store. The second gallery is newcomer, Colborne Street Gallery by Tim + Chris. Colborne Street Gallery is located right on the main street of Fenelon Falls and highlights local and Canadian fine artists, designers and artisans and is a proud member of the Kawartha Arts Council and Arts & Heritage Trail.

There's something to be said for supporting small business owners - it's not only is good karma and supports the local economy, but there is a deep satisfaction in knowing the items you are purchasing are a combination of unique, high quality, and/or Canadian-made. Fenelon Falls is proud to feature numerous local stores that fit these requirements from clothing stores like The Butterfly Boutique, The Corral, and The Kawartha Store. Other local favourites include Curious?, The Barn and Bunkie, and The Village Shop

Enjoy a sweet little treat from The Little Pie Shack

The Little Pie Shack is a Fenelon Falls icon. It's a beloved favourite of both locals and visitors - both due to it's colourful and friendly exterior, and especially because of the downright delicious and homemade treats they offer. After an afternoon of shopping, you've surely earned a sweet little treat, snack, or smoothie.

Break for a nice walk through Garnet Graham Park

Garnet Graham Beach Park runs along Cameron Lake right near the Fenelon Museum. It features a great trail, Victoria Rail Trail, which runs from Lindsay, Ontario, all the way to Kinmount, Ontario. Whether you're looking to take a small stroll, big hike, or bike ride, there's lots of options available. Garnet Graham is also child-friendly and features a playground, brand new splash pad, and some of the beautiful butterfly benches that you'll see around town.

Stop for dinner at local favourite, Murphy's Lockside Pub and Patio

Murphy's is another favourite of both locals and visitors alike. It's a great place to relax, hangout, and enjoy great food and drinks. Some favourites include their buttermilk chicken sandwich, their black bean vegetarian burger, and their sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Depending on when you stop by, they might also have an open mic night on for even more fun!

End the day by watching the sunset on Cameron Lake

There's no better way to end your day than by watching the sunset on Cameron Lake. You can watch from the shore, your boat, or make the most of it with an evening swim — it's gorgeous!


It's almost hard to believe that our perfect day provides just a snapshot of the many activities, stores and sights in Fenelon Falls. It truly is the Jewel of the Kawarthas.
