Last year I noticed an article in a local paper about a small group of people actively involved in our health concerns. I am trying to help out by spreading the word about their efforts.
The Kawartha Lakes Health Coalition will be posting meetings around the Kawartha Lakes in the coming months. They would definitely welcome any volunteering of your time, or donations. Please consider contacting them at: firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook.
They requested help from our community to stop the possible amalgamation of Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Ross Memorial Hospital. One undertaking was arranging a bus to Toronto to join the Ontario protest. Thankfully, at the moment, that discussion has stopped. But many other health issues have not. Their work continues.
The group is called the Kawartha Lakes Health Coalition. It is a non profit group. These 3 local founding members are working on a volunteer basis. They rely on donations for funding.
Listed under the Ontario Health Coalition, their Mission and Mandate is:
“Our primary goal is to protect and improve our public health care system. We work to honour and strengthen the principles of the Canada Health Act. We are led by our shared commitment to core values of equality, democracy, social inclusion and social justice; and by the five principles of the Act: universality; comprehensiveness; portability; accessibility and public administration. We are a non-profit, non-partisan public interest activist coalition and network.”
