Welcome to our special Santa Day edition of the Town Crier. 2018 marks the 18th anniversary of Santa Day in Fenelon Falls and as always, it’s a day filled to the brim with free fun for the family due to the generous support of the volunteers, community members, and local businesses that make this special day shine every year.
Of note, there will be free activities around town from 11 am to 4 pm. For a complete list of activities, we encourage you to visit the Santa Day website, santaday.ca
The parade will kick off at 5 pm and will feature 3 professional bands, dozens of illuminated floats, and lots of characters. You’ll even see Santa himself!
Santa Day will conclude with a fireworks display at 6 pm. Watch the sky light up over the falls.
There are tons of amazing promotions happening during Santa Day. We’ve highlighted some of them below and you can find more amazing activities and treats on the Santa Day website.
25% off store wide, embroidery excluded.
Free hot chocolate for kids 12 and under all day with the purchase of an appetizer or entree.
In an effort to reduce waste at our most cherished community event Country Cupboard is offering free timmies coffee, free fair trade organic sweet bottoms coffee, and free dairy free hot chocolate if you bring your own reusable mug.
We will also have a recycling and waste centre set up to encourage other businesses to put out a blue box so the community has access to recycling. We also remind the community that once you are finished with a disposable cup you simply remove the lid and put both in the blue box (plastic/container recycling)

We will also be collecting food donations for the Food Bank between Lighthouse Restaurant and Cornerstone Furniture, as well the Lions Club is collecting old or used eye glasses which they clean and refurbish for distribution in third world countries.
So something for everyone — tell your friends, neighbours, and relatives to come to Fenelon Falls and enjoy Santa Day this year!

Ever wonder what to do with your old eyeglasses?
Donate them to the Lions Club and get a free Tim Horton’s gift card!
The Fenelon Falls Lions Club will be collecting used eyeglasses from 1-3 pm during the Santa Day festivities, in front of the Subway restaurant. The eyeglasses are cleaned and refurbished and sent to countries where they are needed. The glasses are viewed as miracles by those who receive them as most would not be able to afford them or even have access to them.

History provided by Ali Carter
My Father’s Grandfather bought a property on Sturgeon Lake in 1912. Our family has been summering here for over 100 years. In 1999, my parents retired here and lead active lives in the community playing golf, curling, and bridge.
When my brother and I had our children, we made it a priority to visit Fenelon Falls, not only during the summer months, to take part in the many unique and exciting events, and variety of activities, the various seasons bring.
My daughter Quinn (8) and her cousin, Cole (9) have been coming to the area year-round since they were born. They are the 5th generation on our property. They are the best of friends and always look forward to their time together at Grandma and Grandpa’s!
Some of their favourite Fenelon activities are:
- Country Cupboard for frozen yogurt
- Lunch at Murphy’s
- Visiting the Fenelon Museum where my Great Aunt Elenor Mann’s figure skates are displayed
- Skating at Fenelon arena
- Fenelon Park
- Harvest Festival
- Santa Day
- Candy bar at Grr8 Finds
- Shopping at Butterfly Boutique and Red Apple
- and probably their favourite...tube rides and kayaks on Sturgeon Lake!
I may have missed a few things! We adore Fenelon and are so impressed with the diversity and inclusive nature of this town. Every day we all feel blessed that 106 years ago our relatives decided that this was the place to lay roots.
